The May Queen was Margaret Palmer and the attendants Hilary Cross and Mary Rossiter. Rev Arthur Hickling was the Minister

The May Queen and attendants were driven around the area by Mr. Les Maple in his car after the queen was crowned.


Hilary Cross gave the dress she wore to the City of Bristol Museum Social History Collection. It is now in storage at Blaise Castle.


Museum description:

Girl's dress in white figured polyester satin. Sleeveless with lace edged deep collar. Fastened at the back with poppers, decorated with material covered buttons. Purple net sash, attached at front with safety pin, decorated with green and white plastic flowers.


Girl's headdress to match dress Wire oval covered in green mesh and wrapped with purple ribbon left trailing at one end. Decorated with green and white plastic flowers. A length of black elastic is attached at either side (to run below the wearer's chin). Made by donor's mother for donor to wear on 28th May 1960 (aged 7) when an attendant to the May Queen at a May Fair at Ebenezer Methodist Church, Bedminster.
